Handle with Care- “The Assignments”
Mishandling Specific Assignments- Spirit of Compromise- The Man of God from Judah and Moses
1st Story-Man of God from Judah
1st Kings 13th chapter
18 He said unto him, I am a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the Lord, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied unto him.
The Lord had given the Man of God from Judah the assignment with specific instructions- verse 9, the instructions
9 For so was it charged me by the word of the Lord, saying, Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor turn again by the same way that thou camest.
The man of God from Judah Died because he disobeyed Gods instructions
Learning outcome comes from verses 14 and 18- The prophet went after the man of God vs 14, vs 18 this prophet lied to the man of God. Man of God is another term for prophet.
The learning outcome, when God gives you an assignment with instructions, expect the enemy to chase after you to try to duplicate your anointing and to abort, hinder or delay the completion of the assignment with something or someone that is comfortable or familiar to you.
Because of his disobedience- the man of God from Judah died.
NUMBERS 20:8, 11-12
8 Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.
11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.
12 And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.
He was given instructions. He did not follow Gods instructions. Verses 8-12
He took the rod- that same rod that God used to perform miracles and used it the way he wanted. The learning outcome: The “rod” represents gifts and talents in our hands. These gifts and talents are not for us to use as we want no matter who we are. When we are given clear instructions regarding our talents and gifts, for a situation as Moses was. Stay on the right path or blessings may be denied or missed.
The definition of Assignment…. a position, post, or office to which one is assigned. b : a specified task or amount of work assigned or undertaken as if assigned by authority
Assignments FROM God can be seasonal, situational or permanent
If God gives you a specific assignment or assignments, you must handle with great care, if you don’t there are consequences
We must Obey God especially when he gives us specific assignments with clear instructions.
SUGGESTED learning outcomes. We observe with these two stories one short term or seasonal assignment, and one situational assignment.
Lets look at commonalities in the two stories.. They were both
- Powerful men
- They were Called by God
- Each was given a Specific Assignment with clear instructions
- Each fulfilled the assignment but they disobeyed God’s instructions
- Each suffered a consequence because of disobedience
A question for all of us to consider as we review these two stories is this…..
ARE YOU FULFILLING YOUR ASSIGNMENT EXACTLY AS GOD TOLD YOU OR HAVE YOU ALLOWED SOMETHING OR SOMEONE YOU TRUST TO INFLUENCE YOU OTHERWISE
