TIMING IS EVERYTHING: DILIGENCE IN CHRONOS CREATES OPPORTUNITIES IN KAIROS

I like to use Stories, as per my usual delivery method, I chose the three stories below.

Story One

2 Kings 2

And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.13 He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;14 And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the Lord God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.

Story 2

Esther.. when her turn came she was ready

2 Then said the king’s servants that ministered unto him, Let there be fair young virgins sought for the king:3 And let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather together all the fair young virgins unto Shushan the palace, to the house of the women, unto the custody of Hege the king’s chamberlain, keeper of the women; and let their things for purification be given them:4 And let the maiden which pleaseth the king be queen instead of Vashti. And the thing pleased the king; and he did so.5 Now in Shushan the palace there was a certain Jew, whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite;6 Who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captivity which had been carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away.7 And he brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle’s daughter: for she had neither father nor mother, and the maid was fair and beautiful; whom Mordecai, when her father and mother were dead, took for his own daughter.8 So it came to pass, when the king’s commandment and his decree was heard, and when many maidens were gathered together unto Shushan the palace, to the custody of Hegai, that Esther was brought also unto the king’s house, to the custody of Hegai, keeper of the women.9 And the maiden pleased him, and she obtained kindness of him; and he speedily gave her her things for purification, with such things as belonged to her, and seven maidens, which were meet to be given her, out of the king’s house: and he preferred her and her maids unto the best place of the house of the women.10 Esther had not shewed her people nor her kindred: for Mordecai had charged her that she should not shew it.11 And Mordecai walked every day before the court of the women’s house, to know how Esther did, and what should become of her.12 Now when every maid’s turn was come to go in to king Ahasuerus, after that she had been twelve months, according to the manner of the women, (for so were the days of their purifications accomplished, to wit, six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with sweet odours, and with other things for the purifying of the women;)13 Then thus came every maiden unto the king; whatsoever she desired was given her to go with her out of the house of the women unto the king’s house.

2:15 Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king’s chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her.

Story 3

Matthew 25

“Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.”

WE ALL WILL HAVE A TURN

God grants unto all of us Chronos and KAIROS

He allows a set time for us to sew and a set time to reap

What time is it? How much time to I have? How much time left on exam? What time is the meeting? What time is your flight? What time will you be home? …. When we think of time, we normally associate time with our daily routine. Time moves us from minute to minute, hour to hour, day to day, year to year. Time is progressive and constantly moving.

God created Time for man to use to accomplish life’s tasks but also to fulfill his purpose. It is his gift to us and we must use it properly. We cannot mishandle the gift of “Time”. Time is a God thing. We may never completely understand it as God sees it, but it is our responsibility to handle what he has given To us. I am going to look at this Gift of Time from two ways: Time and Our Daily Walk (Chronos) and (Kairos)-Gods Opportune time.  I hope that as you read this, you will be provoked to think of managing God’s gift of time in the most strategic manner possible.

Chronos Time and Our Daily Walk- How we use the Gift of time on a daily basis. There are two terms I want to preface this entire discussion with: Chronos and Kairos time.

The ancient Greeks had two words for time, chronos and kairos. While the former refers to chronological or sequential time, the latter signifies a time in between, a moment of indeterminate time in which something special happens. Kairos (καιρός) is an ancient Greek word meaning the right or opportune moment (the supreme moment). What the special something is depends on who is using the word. While chronos is quantitative, kairos has a qualitative nature.[1](Wikipedia)  Chronos is the routine time, how we manage the clock, the designations of the clock. Kairos is strategic or opportune time. While these terms are spate and have distinct meanings, I believe when we manage the Chronos according to Gods plan, it turns in to the Kairos.

Using this definition of Chronos, lets turn our attention to Chronos and our Daily walk. We are granted new mercies every morning when we awake. We should begin to consider, is the way we look at our upcoming day the way God sees it? Yes God knows we must take care of the necessities of life, but what does he require of us daily? For those of us who are Christians: the everyday basic diet is prayer, reading the word, studying the word etc. But for this discussion let us begin to look at our day in another way.

WHAT TIME IS IT? CHRONOS time-this is time as we know it every day. KAIROS Time-God’s Divine and strategic opportune moments for us. We do what we need to do in CHRONOS until GOD turns it into KAIROS. 1st Chronicles 12:32- SONS OF ISSACHAR knew the times and knew what ISRAEL SHOULD DO.  PRAY, ASK GOD TO HELP YOU WALK IN THE “Issachar” anointing to accurately discern not just your times and seasons but  what your church or ministry should plan for in the future. SEIZE THE MOMENT, YOU CANT SEIZE THE MOMENT IF YOU MISS IT. THE ISSACHAR ANOINTING UNDERSTANDS TIME AND HAS A SPECIAL ABILITY TO CREATE AND PLAN THINGS AT THE RIGHT TIME…TIMING.

Story One

Observe

And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.

  • Here we see a window of opportunity
  • There was a relationship here
  • An intimate relationship..look at the parallels with what God requires of us
  • Elisha understood his surroundings
  • He had the ability to seize the moment

HAVE YOU MISSED OPPORTUNITIES?

What will you leave behind?

WE ALL HAVE COME SHORT AND MISSED IT

Consider your ways

RECOGNIZE AND Seize the moment-STORY OUTCOME

Story two

  • WE ALL WILL HAVE A TURN

Daniel 2

21 And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:

That’s what it means when the word says he changes the times seasons, he appoints and disappoints

  • God grants unto all of us Chronos and KAIROS
  • He allows a set time for us to sew and a set time to reap
  • Vashti was moved so that the opportunity was created for Esther to have a turn..

IT MAY NOT BE YOUR TIME BUT IT IS YOUR TURN-Story Outcome

Story 3

  • Wise took lamps and carried extra oil in vessels
  • The foolish only took lamps
  • The foolish did not understand the cost or significance of the oil

BE READY WHEN THE DOOR OPENS- Story Outcomes

Preparation meets opportunity

  1. Ask God for wisdom
  2. Work while it is day
  3. Wait with expectancy
  • Wise women, wise people build
  • Work.. They all had the same opportunity, the same knowledge.  Prepare ..
  • Wait-They all slumbered and slept…but nothing going on but prior to that they got ready

I am sleeping but ready

Waiting ready for the cry

Cost Benefit analysis of Oil

Yes oil is costly

But the benefits are greater than the cost

Acts 13:36

36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:

WINDOWS OF OPPORTUNITY

Windows- A window is an opening in a wall, door, roof or vehicle that allows the passage of light and, if not closed or sealed, air and sound.[

A window is a separate viewing area on a computer display screen in a system that allows multiple viewing areas as part of a graphical user interface ( GUI ). Windows are managed by a windows manager as part of a windowing system .

A window can usually be resized by the user. For example, it can be stretched on any side, minimized, maximized, and closed. On today’s multitasking operating systems, you can have a number of windows on your screen at the same time, interacting with each whenever you

Opportunity- a set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something. an amount of time or a situation in which something can be done

Multiplicity of openings  presented for us to receive healing, miracles, promotions, etc. or for us to begin/ start.. or finish or close..for some start a business, others go back and finish…

THREE THINGS ABOUT TIME

  1. RECOGNIZE AND SEIZE THE MOMENT
  2. IT MAY NOT BE YOUR TIME BUT YOUR DILIGENCE WILL CREATE YOUR IMMEDIATE TURN
  3. PREPARATION meets opportunity-be ready when the door opens
